Hmong Costumes

Hmong costumes are worn for special events, ceremonies, and weddings.  In the mountainous regions of Laos, Thailand, and Burma, where many Hmong still live, Hmong costumes are worn for every day life and more elaborate Hmong costumes are worn for special events.

Hmong costumes for men usually consist of a black or white shirt, an embroidered vest, and long black pants held at the waist by an embroidered band.

Hmong costumes for women are far more elaborate and usually cosist of a black or multicolored shirt, long pants or plaited skirt, a waist band, a headdress, and plenty of jewelry.
