Hmong Necklaces
One of the most distinctive elements of Hmong fashion is Hmong necklaces. Worn by both men and women, Hmong necklaces are silver and are typically large and intricate. Hmong necklaces begin with a solid piece of metal formed in the shape of a crescent moon. Hanging from this will be up to a few dozen silver coins. Sometimes many rows of coins will hang from a Hmong necklace, forming large geometric shapes. Other Hmong necklaces will be multi-tiered, featuring several crescent shaped pieces hung one from another, and featuring more silver coins. Women wear the most elaborate Hmong necklaces for festivals, holidays, and weddings.
